A glimpse at the ever-changing wild Pacific Ocean.
I work in sketchbooks a lot, and I love drawing with graphite. My bone folder is a trusty go-to for bookbinding.
Watercolor is one of my favorite materials. And my shell collection is the raw material that fuels my inspiration.
My finished illustrations often start as a sketch like this one, exploring lots of ideas until one sticks.

I am an illustrator specializing in all things ocean from the biggest whales to the tiniest tide pools.

I grew up at the edge of the sea in the Pacific Northwest. I'm inspired by the ocean, especially that special place where land meets sea and fleeting tide pools teem with life and the loud pounding waves drown out all else but your growing sense of wonder. Like Captain Nemo said, the sea alone is where I am truly free.

As humans, our dependence on the ocean is ubiquitous, from food and water to air quality to the economy and employment. And sadly, our impact on the ocean is more obvious every day, from oil spills to wasting sea stars, to whale deaths to acidification.

The sea has always been my refuge. And it instilled in me a deep respect and what I'd later learn Rachel Carson called a sense of wonder.

The sea works every day for me and you. So I work for it.
